How do I become a translator with Simply Translate?
Register with Simply Translate as a translator using the button above. We will send you a questionnaire by e-mail. If you meet our requirements, we will send you a sample translation to test your knowledge and skills. If you pass the test, we will officially register you and approach you for translation projects within your area of expertise.
Do I have to have an active or valid VAT number?
Yes, by operation of law it is mandatory to have a valid VAT number. If you do not have an active or valid VAT number, then you unfortunately cannot work with us. Should you have questions about this, please contact us.
Can I submit my application per e-mail?
No, it is not possible to apply for freelance positions by e-mail. You can sign up using the orange button on this page. You will then receive a questionnaire by e-mail in which you can fill in your details. If we see a possibility for working together, we will send you a test translation. If your test results are positive, we will register you and contact you when we have a translation project available for you.
How do I get a translation project?
We offer translation projects based on your translation expertise. When we have a matching translation project, we send you an e-mail with the client’s preferences (for example, the language combination, deadline, instructions and the rate). If you are available to carry out the project, you confirm your availability.
I responded to a job offer, but have not received a project confirmation. What do I need to do?
If you have not received a project confirmation, then the project has not (yet) been awarded to you. Contact your project manager for more information. Note: do not start working before you have received the project confirmation. This prevents misunderstandings.
I am fluent in multiple languages. Can I translate into multiple languages?
No, with Simply Translate, you may only translate into your own native language. Fluent mastery is not the same as mother-tongue mastery. If you were raised bilingually, you can indicate this in your registration.
Why can I only translate into my mother tongue?
A native speaker knows the nuances of a language like no other. Even if you have fluent proficiency in a foreign language, this level is not equal to the level of a native speaker. Therefore, in order to achieve the best possible result, you may only translate into your own native language.
I have a C2-level certificate. Does that count as ‘native speaker’?
If you have a level C2 certificate according to the European Reference Framework, you should indicate this when you register. Ensure that you can provide tangible proof of your certification. You will have the chance to complete a native speaker test with a sample translation. If you pass this, you may be able to translate within multiple language combinations.
Do I need to have completed a translation training?
No, a diploma from a translation course is not mandatory. However, it is advisable to indicate which training you have followed, so we can tailor the sample translation to your knowledge and skills. We also ask you to indicate in the application form how many years of translation experience you have.
Can I choose where to carry out the work?
As a freelance translator you work from a remote location. This means that you can decide where you want to carry out the work. However, it is necessary to have access to the Internet in order to communicate with us and to make use of any software or CAT tools.
